PRISCILLA LORING WAITE

Priscilla Loring Waite passed on at her home in Buena Vista, Colorado on Oct. 5, 2010.   Her daughter Tia, son-in-law Joseph Carlson, granddaughter Katie Mae, and great-grandchildren Sereniti and Koda were at her bedside.  She is survived by her three children, David (Dulcia), Ted (LaVerne) and Tia (Joseph), eleven grandchildren, Aneen Christina (Aaron), David, Jesse, Katie Mae, Jacqueline, Lindsey, Gabriel, Quinton, Angela, Melinda, and Jessica, and fourteen great-grandchildren.

Priscilla was born in Hartford, Connecticut on April 10, 1929 to Theodore and Thelma Loring.   The family later moved to West Springfield, Massachusetts.  In 1947 she graduated from The Emma Willard School in Troy, New York, and attended Syracuse University.

She married Richard Waite in 1952.  In 1960 they moved to Denver with their three children and in 1973 moved to Georgetown, Colorado.  She designed and built her home in Buena Vista, Colorado in 1995.

With a friend, she owned and operated The Kite Store in Denver’s Larimer Square.  She had a lifelong passion for the arts, and obtained a degree in photography from Denver Community College.

Priscilla was fond of the ocean, but she truly loved the mountains and the southwest.  Fiercely independent and fascinated by nature, she traveled throughout the country in her camper.  Everyone admired and respected her quiet wisdom and the way in which she embraced both life’s opportunities and its challenges.  She was a quietly spiritual, loving and caring woman whose many friends were of all ages and persuasions.   One recently remarked, “If you were down or confused and needed solace, you were always welcome at Priscilla’s house, and when you left you were revitalized and ready to cope with the demands of living once more.”

Her family invites all who knew her to join them in November on Cape Cod where her ashes will be returned to the ocean.

In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to Angel of Shavano Hospice, Salida, Colorado.
