Katie Carrick

   

    Kathleen “Katie” Carrick of Brimley, Mich., died Monday, Nov. 29, 2010 at War Memorial Hospital in Sault Ste. Marie. She was born Nov. 22, 1954 in Unionville, Mich.

    Katie was the teacher at Brimley Head Start for 30 years and had a special place in her heart for each one of her “kids.” She was a member of St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church in Brimley and spent many years on the church council, including being past president. She was also a member of the Brimley VFW Auxiliary. Katie was a devoted and loving wife, mother, friend and the world’s Best Grammy.

    She is survived by her husband of 36 years, Ben Carrick; a son, Ben (Kimberly) Carrick; a daughter, Emily (Mark) Mettner; four sisters, Irene (Ron) Nugent, Rose (Clifford) Frazer, MaryEllen (Gary) Rockefeller and Virginia Gilbert; two brothers, James (Percy) Gokey, Jr. and Pete (Agnes) Gokey; and five grandchildren, Vivian, Ryan, Addison, Lillian and Keira.

    Katie was predeceased by her parents, Emily and James Gokey; a brother, Rick Gokey; and brother-in-law, Carl Gilbert.

    Visitation will be held Thursday, Dec. 2 from 5 to 9 p.m. at St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church with prayers at 8 p.m. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held Friday, Dec. 3 at 11 a.m. at the church with Father Ted Brodeur as Celebrant.

    Memorial contributions to the American Cancer Society would be appreciated. Clark Bailey Newhouse Funeral Home assisted the family with arrangements.
