Edsel Waishkey
Captain Edsel Waishkey went to meet the Great Spirit on Dec. 28, 2010. He was a Bay Mills Indian Community member, born Sept. 17, 1932 to Charles N. Waishkey and Emma E. LaRose Waishkey. His leaving was due to complications following a series of strokes.
Survivors include his wife, Pamela, daughter, Shelly, and granddaughter, Liana. He is sorely missed by his brother, Everette and his sister, Charlotte.
Among his many accomplishments was his earning a Master Captain’s license, in which he was recognized as one of the best on the Great Lakes, and by the U.S. State Department as the Senior Pilot in the Panama Canal Zone. He rose to the tile of 17th Priest in the Masonic Order worldwide, responsible for Masonic Temples throughout both South and Central America. Edsel, also known by many as Mack, was a member of the Brimley School boys basketball team that won state championships back to back in the early 50s under coach Karl Parker.
He was cremated and his ashes spread in the oceans he loved so much.
